The Back in the Day Bakery Cookbook

“Oh, my word! The Back in the Day Bakery Cookbook is the best baking book I’ve ever used. I’ve not had the pleasure of stopping by Cheryl and Griffith Day’s shop in Savannah, but reading the introduction makes me feel like I know them. And sharing the baked goods from the recipes they’ve perfected the last ten years, I feel the magic! If life gives you lemons, make Lovely Lemon Loaf. With the zest of six to eight lemons, lemon soaking syrup, and lemon glaze, you’d think you’d be puckered up for hours…no, but you’ll be smiling that long! Mocha-Oatmeal Muffins are, as one of my colleagues exclaimed, ‘as good at the bottom as they are at the top—maybe even better.’ Sweet or savory, whatever you make will be off-the-charts fabulous.”

I got this book for Christmas, and it has now risen to my Top 5 favorite baking books on my shelf. I have made many of the recipes (including all of the muffins/breads, several cookie recipes, and the vegetable cobbler). All have had stellar results due to great editing of the recipes! I've said this before, but many times I order books from bakeshops only to have to deal with recalculating baking times or re-figuring measurements on ingredients. That gets annoying. That has not been the case with this book. Also, the recipes are quite diverse. Contemporary spins on vintage classics. It contains a section of savory dishes that I'm starting to work my way through and confections like homemade marshmallows. Too fun! Some ingredients were a bit hard to find so I got crafty and did some substituting with good results. All in all, excellent book!!! Have fun!
