100 Calories – Burned!
One of the wonderful things about exercise is that there are oodles and oodles of ways to get your heart pumping and those calories burning. That’s what we’re showing you in this chapter: It doesn’t matter how you get more exercise, just that you do. Even little, everyday activities can make a big difference. For instance, if you burn an extra 100 calories a day, even if you don’t change your eating habits at all, you’ll lose about 10.5 pounds over the course of a year. What’s it take to burn 100 calories? Not much. Below are 15 activities that burn 100 calories, based on a 150-pound, 42-year-old woman. How many have you done today, this week or this month?
1. Go roller-skating. In just 12 minutes, you burn off 100 calories.
2. Go grocery shopping. A 38-minute grocery shopping trip burns 100 calories; you’ll burn another 100 calories carrying the groceries to your car and then into your house.
3. Play Frisbee. Half an hour is all it takes — and that assumes you’re not doing a lot of running after wild throws.
4. Put up your Christmas tree. Forty minutes of stringing lights and hanging ornaments is all that’s needed to burn 100 calories and decorate for the holidays. (Don’t try this in July).
5. Usher for your church or synagogue. After 45 minutes, you’ll have not only greeted all the attendees, but will have burned 100 calories.
6. Make dinner. Pick one that requires chopping. If it takes you 35 minutes to get dinner ready, you’ve just burned your 100.
7. Jump rope. Even slow jumping burns 100 calories in 11 minutes; jump faster, and it takes only about 7 minutes.
8. Clean out your garage. Put in half an hour of sorting. By then, you’ll have cleared at least one small space and burned 100 calories.
9. Jog in place for 11 minutes. Do it during the commercials of a 30-minute TV show.
10. Dance the flamenco. Just 15 minutes of fast ballroom dancing will do it.
11. Walk your dog. In half an hour, you’ll have burned 100 calories, and he’ll have stretched all fours and sniffed to his heart’s content.
12. Iron your clothes. And your partner’s and your kids’. Do it for 40 minutes.
13. Hit the driving range for 30 minutes. You’ll improve your golf game and burn 100 calories.
14. Play golf. Carry your clubs and walk the course, and you’ll burn 100 calories every 20 minutes.
15. Go fishing. It’s peaceful and stress-free, and 30 minutes of it burns about 100 calories.

I am ordering 3 more for friends. I have been a diabetic for 10 years and this book has explained everything - more than all the classes, books and websites. I know it will not reverse my diabetes, but my a1c is the lowest it has been in years. In 5 months I have lost 30lbs and I'm continuing to lose. This book covers everything and is very encouraging. I highly recommend it because it has information that has taught me to commit to knuckling down to taking care of my diabetes/overall health. I also share what I have learned with my Facebook family & friends.

I haven't purchased this book, but I find the title to be a bit dishonest. Or maybe the authors are simply uninformed. It is not possible to reverse diabetes. It is possible, however, to control it. A better title would have been "Controlling Diabetes Forever".

Very nicely written book covering many aspects of living well with diabetes. Thorough, easy to read and understand; useful information, easy exercises and lots of very good, practical recipes. If you plan to buy just one book to help you or someone you love manage their diabetes, this is the one book to buy.
