The star-crossed lovers at the heart of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet draw millions of admirers to Verona, Italy, each year. What’s more, lovelorn fans of the timeless tragedy often send missives, addressed simply, “Juliet, Verona,” to the city asking for love advice. The surprising part is that none of these letters go unanswered!
Letters to Juliet by Lise and Ceil Friedman tells the tale of these letters and the intrepid volunteers that have been writing responses for over seven decades. Featuring more than 75 romantic letters, this lyrical book retraces the history of Shakespeare’s story and tours all the monuments that have fueled the world’s obsession with Juliet. This gorgeous volume speaks to the romantic in us all.

Was totally disappointed in this book! Was not what I expected. Had it had more of a 'story' base would've been more interesting.

I never knew about the awe-inspiring and selfless volunteer group who have been celebrating the power of love through Juliet. I saw the movie and had to find out about the inspiration for it. As a history buff and a romantic at heart, this is a must-read.

Purchased this book for a gift. After reading the letters thought the Ladies and Gentlemen who responded were quite unselfish in doing so. Their attitude gives a hope for future generations to find answers to romantic ideals. Enjoyed the photographs which help give the reader a sense of the romantic atmosphere in Verona. Glad I read the book before giving it to the Lady it is intended for, but would personally not be interested in reading it again -- perhaps because of being a male.
