Margaret Lupo opened Mary Mac’s Tea Room in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1945, competing with 15 other equally genteel establishments. Today, it’s the lone survivor. Browse this delightful tribute illustrated with charming finished food shots and vintage ephemera, and you’ll instantly see why: an owner dedicated to preserving the tradition, a devoted staff and mouthwatering Southern comfort food. From appetizers like Fresh Corn & Bacon Chowder and Cranberry Pecan Salad to desserts like Big Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies and Caramel Cream Cake, these 125 recipes are as delicious as Mary Mac’s, especially the Peach Pancakes, Country Ham with Redeye Gravy, Shrimp & Grits, Chicken & Dumplings, Pickled Okra…okay, it’s all good! So many family receipes vanished with my mother's death. Tastes I couldn't quite duplicate. Mom was from a Southern family and I've never met a better cook. But here are so many that it is hard to believe. I will do them all and savor the memories.

I am a great Paula Dean fan, and really enjoyed this book more than hers. I set down in one reading and read it cover to cover. The recipes were doable and the stories about each one were delightful. I told my husband about it and he also read it. We actually discussed the cookbook together. We have a trip planned to the South next year and plan to stop by Mary Mac's Tea room and have a meat and three.
