Forgotten Skills Of Cooking

Having Darina Allen show you how to make butter, cheese, cider, bread and much more is like having your grandmother at your side sharing her experience, wisdom and charm. After many years of teaching at Ballymaloe’s world-famous cooking school, she’s perfected recipes like homemade salami, Steak & Oyster Pie and Quiche Lorraine. They’re among the 600 recipes and the lovely photos that make Forgotten Skills of Cooking a real standout among self-sufficiency guides. It’s the way Darina describes how to enjoy food foraged in the wild, keep chickens, grow a garden and preserve its bounty, use the whole cow, cure bacon—you name it—that makes it easy to see why the San Francisco Chronicle calls her “The Julia Child of Ireland”! Color photos.

not for me

I loved the idea of this book, but once I received it, I was disappointed. It has nice stories, but the recipes are weird. Pig Ears are not something my kids would like to see on their plates!

Lots of information

This is a huge book covering many topics. I haven't tried any of the recipes in the book yet. They do not appear to be quick and easy but are very interesting. I think they will be worth the time invested.
