The kids and I love the illustrations, but I'm not crazy about the message....people will only be your friends if you share with them? You must give and give and give of yourself until you have nothing left to give? I agree that sharing is a vital lesson for children to learn, but after reading this story my children and I had a separate discussion about how they do not have to give everything just to get people to like them.

My son wants to read this book every single night! I think I have it memorized! Great illustrations. I only wish this author had more children's books to buy

Purchased for my 4 yr. old grandson. After we read it for the first time, he wanted to read it again right away. A very colorful and enjoyable book!

We bought this book because it was important for us to teach our children how important sharing is; how happiness is not self identified but how it is derived by the smiles of others. When you see others happy knowing that you have been the cause of their smiles it brings you the greatest happiness of all. Nothing explains this moral better than Rainbow Fish. The children loved it and since reading it the first time it has not only become one of their favorites but they truly enjoy sharing and spreading happiness with others..which is precisely why we wanted this story in the first place; to inspire them to love others in order to bring the greatest joy to themselves!

My son is 2 1/2 and knew that it was about sharing, but I think once he is in the book's category (4-6 years old) he will pick it up more often. Great illustrations!
