A Clash of Kings

Pretenders to the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms stake their claims in George R. R. Martin’s A Clash of Kings, the stunning sequel to A Game of Thrones.

A comet streaks across the sky—a prophecy of destiny and doom. Fifteen-year-old Robb Stark is King in the North, and to his bannermen, the comet is a flag of vengeance against his father’s killers, while Lady Catelyn Stark fears it’s an omen of blood and defeat. Robb needs her counsel more than ever—if only she can remain strong.

In the south, King Joffrey Baratheon rules with a sadistic 13-year-old’s heart. His uncle Tyrion Lannister must use all his cunning to protect the realm and in the process do what not even his sister, Queen Cersei, expects of him. Justice.

At Dragonstone, Stannis Baratheon vows to make his stand as true heir to the throne. But even as he plots, his brother Renly seeks dominion.

A continent away, exiled queen and the Mother of Dragons Daenerys has lost her brother, her unborn son, her husband and the warriors who rode with him. Now, she must risk everything to win back the crown.

Against a backdrop of fealty and betrayal, the price of glory may be measured in blood. For when rulers clash, all the land bleeds.

Ditto (with a Caveat)

What Mark (the last reviewer) just said, I can't say much better. If you liked/loved the first book, then you will like/love this second one just as much. Now, let me make just one other comment: I thought HBO season 1 of Game of Thrones wasn't bad. I liked the book much better, but I actually thought the HBO Series did justice to the first book. Not true with Season 2/Book 2. HBO Season 2 was an Epic Failure in relation to the book. It butchered so much of the character development and just left me lost (even though I had already read the book). So if you are watching the HBO Series, do not base your opinion of the storyline to "A Clash of Kings" on what you watched. The book is much much much much better!

A classic!

The Game of Thrones series ranks as the best books i've ever read. They're addictive. Once i started reading them i wanted to finish everything i was doing so i could get back to the book. Mr. Martin is a very talented writer and he knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat. I hope there will be more to come.

Awsome, but. . .
September 20, 2011

Martin is a master story teller on a level with history's greatest authors, and what a story he tells. Picking up on the page where the HBO series "A Game of Thrones" (my introduction) left off, he marches us through the trials and tribulations of the Stark clan, et al, and introduces us to others whom we would otherwise have to wait until Gods know when to meet. Martin paints pictures with prose that are vivid to the minds eye--often not pretty, but consistently compelling, with characters that are deep, complex, and with voices all their own. My only complaint is that nobody warned me that I would want to have the next installment ready to crack open immediately after finishing the last page! If you order this book, I suggest you don't make the same mistake because there is no ending at its end, and you will definitely want more.

The Beginning to the Greatest Book Series of all time

A Song of Ice and Fire is the greatest book series of all time. A completely unpredictable plot, great morally gray characters, amazing prose, just...just...amazing. Get this book.
